TNA has held two previous wrestling events in Montreal. The first was on December 27th, 2007 at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau, a show headlined by Christian Cage vs Kurt Angle. That was one of TNA’s very first house shows on the road   Their second event in Montreal was held at Centre Claude-Robillard on October 7th, 2011 featuring AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels and Beer Money vs Scott Steiner & Gunner.   It has taken 13 years for TNA to finally return to the legendary wrestling city of Montreal, at a historic venue - the Verdun Auditorium.

The Verdun auditorium has a storied wrestling history. Opening in 1938, it held its first wrestling event in 1940. In the 1950's there were weekly wrestling events broadcast throughout the province of Quebec on Radio-Canada.

Through the 1970s and 80’s, Verdun Auditorium was the weekly show arena for Grand Prix Wrestling, a popular Montreal territory (run by the Vachon family) from mid-1971 to 1974. It was then used by Celebrity Wrestling and Grand Circuit until 1976, and then sporadically in the late 70s.

In the 1980s, International Wrestling used it from time to time, but not regularly.

The WWF held 2 events there in 1984, including a TV taping which did not draw well as at the time they were not known in the area. However when the WWF returned in 1987 they jam packed the building with a sell out crowd. After, they regularly ran the larger Montreal Forum and then the Molson/Bell Center.

In the early to late 2000's Jacques Rougeau (The Mountie) ran his wrestling federation, Luttle Internationale, out of the Verdun Auditorium.

The venue was very recently renovated last year. So a perfect place for TNA to hold Slammiversary.
